Celebrating five awards at our national industry event

York Racecourse is delighted to have won five different accolades at the National Racecourse Association Showcase Awards. This gala event is the “Oscars” of British Racecourses with tracks competing for the coveted awards.

York was the winner of the prestigious “Best Event” category, after the success of the new eighteenth raceday in July, when a sellout crowd enjoyed both the innovative Jump Jockeys Nunthorpe, as well as seeing a live concert from Olly Murs.

Another of the main awards on the night was the “Outstanding Achievement Award” won by York Senior Receptionist, Alison Storey.  Alison, who was on holiday in Spain, sent a video message expressing how proud and honoured she was to receive this inaugural award.

More recognition came the way of the team from the Knavesmire, courtesy of the VisitEngland survey of all UK racecourses, which saw York winners in a record three categories - “Staff Customer Service”, the “Best Fast Food Outlet” for the Knavesmire Food Court as well as the “Lovely Loos” accolade.

York has been a winning racecourse every year in each of the previous renewal of these prestigious awards ceremonies which follows a full day conference to meet, share best practice, celebrate innovation and hear from outside organisations such as Wimbledon and TV’s travel expert Simon Calder.

Commenting on the success, Chief Executive and Clerk of the Course, William Derby, said; “We are honoured to have been recognized by both the Showcase judges and VisitEngland assessors; it brought back happy memories of the fabulous atmosphere here on our new raceday and offers well deserved recognition to the team that worked so hard to deliver it. We know that Alison is a star, so it was lovely to see her shine bright for the wider world. I’m delighted that the efforts of Team York have been recognised at the end of another successful season.”
