Whilst we all return to our normality after the festive break, having acknowledged the coming of a new year in our own ways, the Chinese Lunar New Year is yet to take place.
Tuesday 17 February 2026 ushers in the Year of the Horse, and the year of the Red Fire Horse no less. It is one of the most energetic cycles in the Chinese zodiac occurring once every 12 years, and as a Fire Horse only once every 60 years a period traditionally associated with movement, ambition, and social momentum. Horses have shaped human history for more than 5,000 years. They carried armies, opened trade routes, powered agriculture, and connected early civilizations. Even today, horses remain central to farming, sport, therapy, and culture across the world. That deep human-animal bond is why the Horse holds such symbolic weight in Chinese astrology.
Here at York Racecourse the horse has also shaped our own history, relatively short in comparison at just 295 years since its first race meeting in 1731, and stages 18 days of magnificent racing each year.
And so, what do we do the rest of the time?
Other than our meetings of the equine variety, year-round York Racecourse also hosts business meetings, conferences and training courses, product launches and exhibitions. We’ve got some superb multi-functional facilities across two grandstands, accompanied by open space and vibrant grassy surroundings, where delegates can take a well-earned health break in the great outdoors before returning to their focused working day.
So, what lies ahead in business?
Unlike other years, the horse year is rarely passive, it rewards focus and consistency. It signifies speed, action and opportunity, and requires smart planning and strategy. Those who plan carefully and manage energy wisely may see tangible progress in work, relationships, and personal goals.
The message of our story is:
Teams make the business world go-round, so start the year ahead fresh and focused with a great conference at the Knavesmire. We’ve got an excellent value day delegate package waiting for you.
