Racing Community in York

York Racecourse has been a member of the local community since 1731. Throughout our long history in the city, we have had the pleasure of making a real difference to local charities and community groups. We are also dedicated to embedding sustainability in all our operations to support a better future for all.

Community Engagement

Our events calendar is bursting with community engagement and charity fundraising days. We regularly host school, college and university behind the scenes tours, support the Racing to School initiative and many other racing charities, including Racing Welfare, Injured Jockeys Fund, New Beginnings and JETS.

We partner with many local groups and charities, offering funding and event space for their activities. York Racecourse is proud to support Clifton Green Primary School, Brainkind, Blueberry Academy, St Leonard’s and St Gemma’s Hospices, York Against Cancer, Cancer Research, NYP’s Neighbourhood Policing team, York Pride, and many more worthy causes.

Remy, our Equine Ambassador, works across York, bringing thoroughbred horses into schools and hospices, delighting members of the community with an unforgettable, hands-on experience.

Racing Together

York Racecourse are proud members of Racing Together, British racing’s community engagement association. This growing partnership of racing organisations, charities and sporting organisations work together to be a force for good in their local areas.

Give and Gain Day

We are proud to be involved with the Give and Gain initiative, where our employees can take a day away from their usual duties to help their local community. On the Global Day of Employee Volunteering, organised by Business in the Community, our staff along with thousands of others, give their time to helping causes close to their hearts.
